Rabobank Indonesia Awards Five Undergraduate Scholarships to IPB Students; Supports the Improvement of Higher Education Quality

16-10-2009 | Press Release

Speaking on the scholarships offered by Rabobank Indonesia President Director Henk Mulder said, “We are very enthusiastic about the launch of our Rabobank Undergraduate Scholarships this year. We aim to support Indonesia’s future  generation of agricultural leaders in achieving their dreams by giving them scholarship to complete the undergraduate study.”

Rabobank Undergraduate Scholarships program carefully considers the candidate’s need for financial assistance in the selection process, in addition to their achievement during senior high school and first months in university. For many of the applicants who came from rural areas around Indonesia, this scholarship will help ease the financial burdens of their families. Majority of their parents are farm employees, taxi drivers or even do not have a permanent job.

“We would like to see more of talented students who come from financially disadvantaged families continue their studies at university level. The support of scholarships program such as ours would make it possible,” continued Henk.

A total of five Undergraduate Scholarships were awarded to first year students of IPB who majored in agriculture, agriculture technology or economics and management.  All scholarship applicants went through an administrative selection process based on their academic records results and supporting documents. Shortlisted candidates were then invited to a series of interviews conducted by a panel made up of Rabobank Indonesia Board of Corporate Social Responsibility.  The interview sessions help to ensure that the scholarship recipients posses the necessary amplitude and drive to  complete their studies timely within a stipulated timeframe. Candidates were also selected based on their willingness to contribute to the future of the Indonesian agribusiness industry.

Commenting on the partnership with IPB, Henk Mulder said, “IPB is a profile agriculture university in Indonesia and has good reputation for its very high standards of scholar. As the world’s leading food and agribusiness bank, awarding these scholarships clearly cement Rabobank’s commitment to contribute to long term development of the agricultural sector in Indonesia, through improvement in higher education quality. We hope that in the near future these recipients will play a greater role in the advancement of food and agribusiness sector here in Indonesia.”
